The Downtown Christmas Parade is held on the Thursday following Thanksgiving Day.   That means it is either the first Thursday in December or last Thursday in November depending on the calendar.

The Downtown Christmas Parade has a long tradition in Longview.  Enteries in this parade have numbered over 100 for many years and each entry is lighted in some fashion.  Longview area high school bands march in the parade as well as occasional guest marching bands from the surrounding region.

This Parade has everything necessary to thrill a young heart no matter how many years it has lived on this big blue marble.  Come out and enjoy this traditional kick off with the official lighting of the Gregg County Courthouse.  For the first two weekends following the parade, events of all kind are going on in Longview including ArtWalk Longview, Living History Christmas at the Gregg County Historical Museum,  Breakfast with Santa at the Longview Museum of Fine Arts and Holiday Tea Room/Christmas in Toyland.

The first two weekends in December each year is a time for a good old fashioned Christmas and all the activities.  Even though the occurence of snow is rare, Downtown Longview provides an opportunity for the youngsters to enjoy a friendly snow ball toss.  2011 will feature two snow hills.

Entertainment takes place the first evening in front of the Gregg County Courthouse.  Free hot chocolate is served and hay wagon rides are provided for all who want to spend a brisk evening in the outdoors during the Holidays.

And of course, Santa Claus makes a special trip to Downtown Longview to visit with all good boys and girls.  Be sure to arrive early because the Santa line can get very long.  Bring your camera!

On December 2, the Courthouse activities will include ArtWalk Longview for a special opportunity to view fine art and Downtown Market to shop for Holiday treasures.
